Ms. Southern States spent many of her early years struggling to accept herself inside and out. She used to want to be like others so much that she overlooked the beautiful soul looking back at her in the mirror every morning. She credits her confidence due to her faith in God. After giving her life to Christ, one Scripture that helped her to learn to see herself as "beautiful enough" is Psalm 139:14 which says: " I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well." She uses pageantry as an opportunity to use her crown to serve and connect with others as well as uplift others.

Ms. Southern States is a certified educator in South Carolina and loves to teach. She has such a bright passion for teaching that students look forward to coming to class. She is the three-time recipient of the I AM H.E.R. International "Teacher of the Year" Award and two-time recipient of the I AM H.E.R International "S.T.E.A.M. Award".

Today, Ms. Southern States leads a service-based national nonprofit organization, Kappa Epsilon Lambda Royal Christian Sorority, Incorporated, that supports the spiritual, mental, and emotional needs of women needing encouragement and sisterly support systems. Additionally, she maintains a YouTube ministry, Pretty Doc Ministries, to help others be empowered and overcome adversity based on the Bible.
